Last week we enjoyed a wonderful week at the beach. It was SO much fun!! More pictures to come.. I just have to go through the thousand pictures I took. Yes, I get a little camera happy on vacations. That or my kids are just to darn cute!
While at the beach I learned a dirty little secret from my Aunt. My sand babies had a blast playing, digging, eating.. practically swimming in the sand! At the end of the day the sand was EVERYWHERE! If you’ve been to the beach you know that sand is practically impossible to get off.
Well here’s the secret: Pack a travel size bottle of baby powder in your beach bag. Then at the end of the day, all you have to do is rub the baby powder on the skin. Simple as that! The sand will rub right off. AMAZING stuff! It leaves my babies nice and soft! AND most importantly… sand-free!
Now there’s one happy baby! Isn’t she the cutest?! Love this little girl!
Do you want to know what else I love using baby powder for? Day old beach hair! It acts as a dry shampoo and is perfect for the beach…because let’s be honest… who wants to get ready at the beach?! I love to just relax, have fun and not have to worry about my hair or makeup!
So have you tried either of these tricks?!
great tip! thanks for sharing! i LOVE to use baby powder for second day hair 🙂
I know! Much cheaper than the bed head dry shampoo. 🙂
Oohhhh…..good to know! I hate it when sand gets everywhere then you end up tracking it back into your hotel/condo too! Thanks for the great tip. Living here in Florida, I’m sure I’ll put it to good use soon!
oh yeah that is the worst when it gets in the hotel… you feel like you can’t get rid of it. lol! i love florida!!
So you just rub the powder over feet and legs? Do you rinse off first at one of the showers?
Yep, you just rub the powder over the sand!
Oh my goodness, she is adorable and I love the photos.
Thanks Michelle!! I had fun taking pictures of her on the beach. 😉
She is the cutest! I love little tutu’s! That is the greatest tip ever – just tweeted it!
Thanks Shona! I know when I saw this swimsuit at Target I had to get it! Pretty good deal for 10 bucks!
Adorable swimsuit! What a cutie. Thanks for the tip…I had never heard that before. I will have to try that out next time we are at the beach. 🙂
Thanks! I had never heard of it either till my aunt pulled out the baby powder. She is a genius!
Genius! This will save me so many beach headaches in the future! Thank you for sharing.
I know as much as I love the beach.. I do not love taking the sand home with me! You’ll love this!
What a great tip!! I could have used that yesterday when my little ones were covered in sand from the sandbox. Thank you for sharing and I can’t wait to try it!!!
Thanks! haha yes my little guy is the same way! when he plays in the sand it gets EVERYWHERE! lol
You have the most adorable baby!
Thanks Julie! She’s such a sweetheart! 🙂
That is a fabulous tip!! I can’t wait to try it out at our upcoming beach trip!! If you don’t mind, I’d like to link to it for my readers to enjoy!! Super adorable baby, by the way!
Thanks! It sure saved us. I’d love for you to share a link to the post.
I am SOOOO glad I read this! I’m from Puerto Rico and we’re going to take our daughter there in March for the first time. She is an ADDICT of the water so I’m sure we’ll be FULL of sand. This will be such a life saver! Again, thank you thank you!
Oh I’m so glad you enjoyed reading this! You’re daughter is going to LOVE the beach! How fun!
I have heard this before, but haven’t tried it. I will have to remember that for our next vacation!
Cute pics!
Thanks Jenny! You’ll have to try it out. Have a good one! xo
REALLY? My whole life on the beach and still often there with my kids and I didn’t know Baby Poweder was the secret! WOW Thank you for sharing. On another note she is ADORABLE…those rolls 🙂
lol! You’ll have to try it next time. And thank you.. I love my chubby babies! 🙂
YES! My parents have a beach condo so normally we don’t worry too much about getting the sand off when we vacation there. But for the 4th of July we went to a public beach with my husband’s family. I was worried about our car getting all full of sand on the way home. But I used the baby powder trick to clean the sand off of all of us before we got in the car. worked like a charm! AND we all smelled much better for the drive home:)
that’s awesome! i know i love the way it smells. nice and clean! 🙂
Such cute pictures! We used the baby powder trick when we were younger, and still use it on our feet…makes for a much less sandy car.
Thanks Barbara! Yeah I definitely don’t get as sandy as my kids, but I used it on my feet too! Worked great!
What a great trick. I’ll have to file that away in my brain for when I have a baby. That or I could use it for myself because I HATE when I can’t get all the sand off me at the end of the day.
haha totally! all the guys were using it too! pretty funny!
I had heard of the baby powder trick but I have never tried it before. I have used it as dry shampoo before and it does work well for that.
I love the little pink tutu bathing suit!
Thanks Ginger! It definitely comes in handy. 🙂 xo
Jamie, I cant wait to see more. emmalyn is soooooooooooo cute!!!!!! which aunt taought you that secret?
Jenny
Thanks Jenny! I sure love her! Aunt Cindy taught me. She brought two huge bottles of baby powder, lol!
Great tip, I’ve never heard of this one before. Can’t wait to put it to work, finally my love/hate relationship with sand will be ‘pure love’.
Fabulous idea – and good timing too as we are at the beach this week!! Good thing I packed our baby powder 🙂

oh my goodness. those are the cutest little chubby legs in the world. i don't care if they're sandy, I just want to pinch those cute little legs! She's so adorable!!
I have done this for years and share this tip with everyone!! Works so well … my teenager still makes sure we have baby powder when we head to the beach!!!
It’s awesome!! Wish I would of found out sooner. 🙂 Have a great weekend!
cute pics and useful tip
yes, this works…I have a big thing of baby powder in the car for the beach, and it works everytime!!!
Great tip! I will try it at the next beach trip.
Adorable little girl! My daughter has the same suit, it is the cutest. =)
Oh wow! I am packing one in my car right now, living in Hawaii we do have a lot of beach days! I just never heard of this trick before. Thank you!
Your LO is just ADORABLE!!! Love that swimsuit! 😉 Great tips for the sand too!
I have tried the powder in the hair but as a brunette I found my hair looked a bit dull and almost greyish. It seems to work much better on blonds as their hair is closer in colour.
I love this trick! Fabulous! Used it yesterday and it works SO well! I just started a blog myself and had to share it! I included a link to your site for all to see the original post! Thanks for the helpful hint!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE using baby powder for the sand!!!! Baby powder is ALWAYS ALWAYS in my beach bag here in So California!! It’s just always funny how many weird looks my family & I get when we get into the car! Everyone gets ‘powdered up’ before getting into the car. Besides how much better it feels than being all sand-y, it is so much easier getting powder out of the car than SAND!! And by the way, my family are no longer BABIES, but boys ages 20, 17, & 12! Thanks for sharing one of my favorite tricks.
This is so great! Will be using!
I never knew this! Thanks for sharing.
She’s really adorable 🙂
Thanks Melissa! It’s perfect for the beach! 🙂 Have a great weekend!
I can’t believe I have lived in FL my whole life and NEVER KNEW THIS!!! I am so excited!!! Going to throw baby powder in the beach bag now!!! Thanks!!!
i’ve seen this trick before, but please, please be so careful with talc– it is so bad if it is inhaled. I’m a physician and if talc is inhaled it scars the lungs so they won’t inflate–the 2 opposing sides will stick together, so you can’t inhale. Cornstarch is better because it doesn’t have as much dust and is safe if it is ingested.
What a fab tip and what a beautiful little girl. I will definitely be taking the powder next time we go to the beach 🙂
What a great idea! We’re taking a beach vacation this summer, so I will remember this. I pinned it just to make sure I would. 🙂
My 85 year old aunt had a severe rash on her chest area, and after numerous trips to the dermatologist and a number of different creams, my aunt tried plain ole Johnson’s baby powder and within a few days she was getting better. We love our Johnson’s.
I’ve used this trick since I was a kid and recently shared it with my friends who were amazed and excited to use it for their kids. One other thing we have done is sew a little bag out of cheesecloth and then filling it with powder. Rub on the skin and it works the same without all the billowing dust. Store it in a ziplock. Also the cornstarch powder works just as well to avoid the talc.
That is such a great idea, I will definitely need to try that next time we go to the beach! Thanks for sharing Heather! 😀
This is a great trick as we live on a lake and my folks at the ocean, but I’m wondering: do you put the powder on while the sand is completely dry only? or anytime after erring sandy (I.e. if sand is still damp); assume that powder would get clumpy…? :/
The sand wasn’t completely dry and it still worked! 🙂
My sisters and I used baby powder on sandy feet from toddler-hood and up, We had to be completely sand-free before entering the house. If it wasn’t off, we used the outside hose. Then, while the grown-ups were gathering for post-beach drinks, we were up in the bathroom, taking our baths and experimenting with the baby powder. We loved to put it into our hair and make ourselves “blonde.” It must have been a mess all around, but we probably rinsed it all out next morning at the beach! P.S. I got here from reading about how to hang a two-nail picture, from Jillee’s One Good Thing.
